The Town of Bourne is nestled on both sides of the Cape Cod Canal with the historic Sagamore and Bourne Bridges connecting the two sides of one town. On the “mainland” Northwest side of the Bridge, the villages of Bourne, Bournedale and Sagamore Beach stretch along the canal from one bridge to the other. As you cross the Bourne Bridge and approach the island side, you will be greeted by the famous “Welcome to Cape Cod” message landscaped into the plantings in the Bourne Rotary. Bourne became very popular in the late 1800’s when President Grover Cleveland established a home for hunting and fishing, in what is now known as Gray Gables. It is also the home of the Massachusetts Maritime Academy and berth for their Training Ship Kennedy. Visit the Aptucxet Trading Post Museum which was originally built by the Pilgrims of Plymouth Colony in 1627 in order to trade with the Wampanoag Indians and the Dutch. Stop in the National Marine Life Center to visit cold stunned turtles, and take a stroll down the bike trail along the Cape Cod Canal!

Stretching along the Eastern Shore on your right you will find the villages of Gray Gables, Monument Beach, Pocasset, and Cataumet. Bourne’s small southeastern villages are well known for their quaint and tranquil settings stretching along miles of bay front with peninsula’s defining the beloved niche communities.

Bourne has well planned conservation areas with miles of trails throughout the Bourne Sister’s Woodland, Cataumet Greenway, Lawrence Island, Little Bay, Monks Park, Nickerson Conservation Area, Four Ponds, Red Brook Pond Conservation Area and so much more! Little Bay Conservation stretches along the coast with gorgeous Bayfront trails. The Cape Cod Canal Bikeway was recently approved to be expanded for direct connection to the Shining Sea Bikeway in Falmouth. Once a railroad bed, riders, joggers and walkers will have access to an incredible bikeway that stretches from the Cape Cod Canal to Woods Hole!
